Yesterday we drove from Edinburgh to the Dumfries and Galloway town of Moffat in our steady stead - Heather. The area is famous for its Moffat Toffee, the Galloway Black Belted Cow and did you know Gold? We were off, brimming with anticipation and excitement to see if we too could strike gold.

There's Gold in those Scottish Hills
The Scottish Gold Rush
The only Scottish Gold Rush took off in 1868 in Sutherland at Kildonan Burn. Today gold can also be found in Tyndrum and Wanlockhead. Why not try your hand and strike gold with a gold panning course at the Wanlockhead Lead Mining Museum?
World Gold Panning Championships - Moffat
This year there are 26 countries competing in the World Gold Panning Championships, including Slovakia, Canada, and Germany.
The competitors had to find up to 10 pieces of gold within the shortest time. Some find it in less than 3 minutes.
