After visiting New York several times and experiencing some of the fun, and famous places to eat and drink. Here are some of the best and delicious, food and drinks to try in New York.
DELICIOUS FOOD & DRINK TO TRY IN NEW YORK
Tick Tock Diner
The Tick Tock Diner is an iconic American chain restaurant with delicious food and drinks. One of my favourite meals of the day is breakfast, I try to start the day on the right foot, and while in New York it has to be their incredible Belgium waffles or a pancake stack. Yum!
Centrally located in Midtown, opposite Penn Station and adjoining The New Yorker Hotel.
Serendipity 3
Known for its amazing food and incredible frozen hot chocolate. It is popular with locals and tourists alike. Arrive early to get a table!
Serendipity was also in the movie of the same name starring Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack.
Katz's Delicatessen
New York's oldest deli dating back to 1888 and family-run for over 100 years!
Located on the Lower East Side (205 East Houston Street and the corner of Ludlow St), it is well known for pastrami on rye. The meat is cured for 30 days, it might take a while but it is quality over quantity. The legendary deli is built on quality and cold meat is their pride and joy.
You might also recognised it from movies such as We Own The Night, Across The Universe, Enchanted, and When Harry Met Sally.
Magnolia Bakery
Magnolia Bakery is well known for its delicious baked goods and cupcakes but became famous as Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex In The City) enjoyed a vanilla cupcake. If you visit the original location Bleecker Street (1996) it is still as busy as ever, but you could also see the home of Dr. Strange (Marvel Movies) filmed at W 12th and West 4th Streets in West Village.
Dominique Ansel Bakery
Chef Dominique Ansel is well known for the Cronut® (named one of TIME Magazine's “25 Best inventions of 2013”), The Cookie Shot, Frozen S'more, Blossoming Hot Chocolate, and many more. If visiting over the holidays you might like to try Bruche De Noel. Yum!
Tasty Bits On The Go
Throughout New York, you can find street stands selling hot dogs, warm pretzels, and during the winter months toasted nuts and chestnuts. During the summer months while walking through Central Park, you might like to try a snow cone (crushed or grounded ice with a flavoured sugar/syrup topping).
Chelsea Market
Located in the middle of New York's meat-packing district is Chelsea Market. The food and retail indoor market was once the National Biscuit Company factory! The area has always been known for food in the city begining with the Algonquin Indians, who traded their game and crops on the banks of the Hudson River at this same spot.
Today there are lots of food options from sweet treats including chocolate, baked goods, jerk chicken, and lots more! The market attracts more than 6 million visitors annually. Get there early to explore more leisurely. Opens everyday 7am till 10pm.
I hope you have enjoyed reading and inspired, to try one or more of these delicious New York foods or drinks. As always, I love hearing from you with your comments/questions. You can get in touch in the usual ways.
Until next time..happy travels, Michelle x
