This Sunday (3rd November 2024) Edinburgh is hosting its tenth annual Diwali event. The city centre will be awash with music and colour celebrating the Indian Festival of Lights - triumphing of light over darkness the world over. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming Edinburgh Diwali celebrations.

About Edinburgh Diwali


Edinburgh Diwali is an initiative by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh and a committee from the Indian diaspora of different faiths based in Edinburgh to bring Diwali - Festival of Lights, the most famous Indian Festival to Edinburgh so that the mainstream community can share, participate, and celebrate the spiritual victory of good over evil.


The festival is celebrated by 1.5 billion people around the world mainly in Australia, Barbados, Bali, Britain, Canada, Guyana, Indonesia, Laos, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Tanzania, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, United States of America and Vietnam

14:00 Parade Moves Off From St Andrews Square

15:30 Performance Programme With Dancing and Live Music, Ross Bandstand, Princes Street Gardens

18:30 Onwards - Fireworks Display Princess Street Gardens


Edinburgh Diwali Is Supported By


Edinburgh Diwali takes place thanks to the kind support from the City of Edinburgh, People's Postcode Lottery, and People's Postcode Trust. The festival is further supported by Baillie Gifford, BEMIS Scotland, Craigvrack Hotel, Lidl GB, Mr Basrai's World Cuisines, and two of Edinburgh's leading Indian restaurants - Desh and Dishoom.
